Multi-step investigations that show their plan and reasoning, with direct access to patent data.

Deep research designs a plan for how to answer your question, then works through it, showing its intermediate reasoning rather than only the conclusion. That is the difference from research chat: you can see how it got there, and check the route.

Following the plan

The steps appear as a list. Filled markers are complete and hollow ones are still pending. Expand any step to see its detail.

Deep research takes time. Leave it running and do something else, or select Cancel to stop it.

Patent search

Deep research has direct access to patent data. It can answer questions about patents, assignees and inventors — not merely find documents that mention them. This is the main reason to choose deep research over a comprehensive research chat.

Attachments and output

Identical to research chat: 50 MB per file, the same accepted formats, PDFs read including their images, and selection from group storage. See Research Chat.

One difference worth knowing. The presentation, PowerPoint, Excel, simulator and escalate actions hand off to a research chat at the comprehensive level, carrying the investigation's context across. The export itself happens in that chat, not in the deep research item.
